Why Start New Churches?

“The local church is the hope of the world.” – Bill Hybels

1) It’s what Jesus came to do.
Jesus said, “I will build my church and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.” Matthew 16:18

2) The local church is God’s best plan for reaching our world.
“His intent was that now, through the church, the manifold wisdom of God should be made known to the rulers and authorities in the heavenly realms, according to His eternal purpose which He accomplished in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Ephesians 3:10

3) Jesus’ final command to His followers was to reach the whole world.
“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem (local church planting), and in all Judea (regional church planting) and Samaria (cross-cultural church planting), and to the ends of the earth (global church planting).

FACTS:
• A church older than 10 years takes 89 attendees to reach one person for Christ.
• A church 3 to 10 years old takes 7 attendees to reach one person for Christ.
• A church 0 to 3 years old takes 3 attendees to reach one person for Christ.
• Across most of America, 75-80% of the population does not attend church. (The harvest is plentiful – John 4:35)

“The single most effective evangelistic methodology under heaven is planting new churches.” – C. Peter Wagner

“The purpose of the church is to proclaim the Gospel of Christ and gather believers into local churches where they can be built up in the faith and made effective in service, thereby planting new congregations throughout the world.” – David Hesselgrave

Why Plant?
The simplest answer is … because most Americans do not know Jesus.
